The Black Art of Making Mas
27th September - 4th October 2013 Curator: Angela Slocumbe Ever wondered where the fantastic musicians, performers and costumes at Notting Hill Carnival come from? Making Mas is an exhibition series that explores the history and development of Black British Carnival Arts. From the traditional, subversive themes and characters of old Mas to the exotic fusion of Afro-Caribbean and Latin inspired designs we see today. Glorious Backstage Arts and IAF will host another series of interactive gallery events for schools to explore the masqueraders’ costumes, images, and the backstage arts and careers that exist to create this maverick art form.
