3 Hackney Artists

This exhibition features David Barnett, Martin Church and Ztenzila. Each of the artists has their own distinctive way of working. They are from a variety of backgrounds and they span the generations. However, their work is united by its London connections. It makes for an eclectic exhibition with images made on the tube, on the street and of everyday urban life.

David Barnett 
I started out as a graphic designer finally becoming an artist working in Primary schools in East London. It is the best thing I ever did. I observed the fresh, natural way children draw. They draw unfettered by rules and without hesitation. In my own way I have tried to adopt that approach. The prints in this exhibition came from sketches drawn in a small square sketch pad with a black marker pen. The majority were made spontaneously on a daily basis in favourite locations around London fields. The graphic form of the prints, the added colour and grid layout, developed as a way to showcase a set of work.

Martin Church 
My practice is to sketch on the Metropolitan Line tube using fugitive materials. I recently started to develop the sketches into larger acrylic compositions. Ten canvases are on show in this exhibition.

Ztenzila 
"What da hell... I'm a struggling cartoonist, film maker, graffiti artist, so called fighter, sk8ter, toy maker and merchandiser trying to make ends meets."
