​I k n o w y o u o n c e h a d h air d o s presents the work of seven emerging European artists who use the recollection and reconstruction of memory to make sense of the past and the present; much of the work shows how any truth of what happened - particularly with regard to trauma and loss - may not be found in the available evidence. This show is rooted in the assumption that memory is a reconstructive process with imagination and creation at its heart.  Individual and collective memory, and thereby history, are always open to interpretation (even by those who have experienced their events and still bear the scars of the resulting trauma), due to their reliance upon fragile and decaying fragments that we regard as ‘facts’ but which become new with each retelling.  We can never be sure that what we remember is what happened.
