From Birth to Freedom: An Exhibition of Afghan Art

Afghan Association Paiwand is proud to present From Birth to Freedom: An Exhibition of Afghan Art, a fine art exhibit showcasing the work of London-based Afghan artist Sadaf Frahmand Ahmadi. From Birth to Freedom is an exploration of the ways in which the process of thought is translated into the expression and object of art. It attempts to render the intangible visible through the use of forms and colours inspired by Islamic art, particularly the paintings and mosaics that decorate the facades of Mughal architecture built between the 16th and 18th centuries in India. In these pieces, the incorporeal quality of ‘infinity’ is given texture and colour, and explored as a tangible form with which the viewer can engage. Similar themes are seen in ancient Chinese and Indian art, which Ahmadi takes as a foundation to redefine traditional interpretations of universal human concepts, choosing modern colour schemes to reinvent a classical aesthetic.
