Eleanor is our Director of Art and teaches our teenage art class MakeMoreArt on Wednesdays. She also leads our Children's Holiday Art Workshops programme. Eleanor is an artist, educator and curator living in east London. She works in drawing, mixed media and live art.
‘For me the artwork itself is the concrete form of something that ‘wills itself’ in to being. I am merely the channel for this. My art woks encapsulate a state of mind. The images I create operate on the level of symbol or icon. It is my aim that they will lodge with the viewer as they have lodged in my mind’s eye.'
Eleanor has a particular interest in exhibiting in alternative sites of historical interest. She has shown drawing and live art at The Caledonian Park Clock Tower London, Perrot's Folly, Birmingham, and St Pancras Church Crypt, London.
As well as imaginative and visionary works, Eleanor has a consistent thread in her practice of observational drawing. In 2016 she created a series of large scale pencil portraits of local people in Forest Gate. These were exhibited in community spaces such as The Gate Library, Familia Cafe and Number 8 Forest Gate Emporium.
Jo Sweeney - MakeArt
Jo teaches MakeArt on Thursday and some of our Children's Holiday Art Workshops
I am an artist and part-time art teacher. I grew up in north London, local to IAF. I studied sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art and went on to become an associate at Open School East (an alternative art school). I have worked as an art fabrication technician, specialising in wood, bronze casting and fibreglass. In my own art practice I work in sculpture and sometimes sound and video. Much of my work investigates the role of monumental architecture.
Kiera Burton - ArtStart
Kiera has just started teaching ArtStart our 4-6 year old art class on Saturday mornings
Kiera Burton is a London based artist whose work explores the spiritual and feelings of connection. She has worked within London's contemporary art industry since 2015, managing gallery teams internationally and coordinating charity fundraisers. She currently studies postgraduate Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts and practices in oil painting, sculpture and installation. Alongside her practice, Kiera has worked within the local community for three years teaching children.
Tess Williams - MakeArt
Tess started at IAF in September 2019. She teaches our Tuesday MakeArt
Tess Williams is a process based abstract painter who incorporates the use of collage, textiles and installation within her work. Her paintings are materially rooted in the details of urban landscapes, and explore the physical deconstruction and reconfiguration of the traditional canvas.
Tess graduated from her Masters at Central Saint Martins in 2015, and has since exhibited widely across the UK and Europe. She grew up locally to the Islington Arts Factory, and has her studio at The Bomb Factory Art Foundation in Archway.
