Guidelines for Exhibitors

Who hangs the exhibitions?
Exhibitors are responsible for hanging their own exhibition. You must come prepared with all the necessary equipment for hanging and installing your work and be self-sufficient during this time. If you need any advice on the appropriate ways to hang your show, please speak to a member of IAF staff prior to arriving to hang.

When will I install my exhibition?
You are allocated two days to hang your exhibition. The set up period takes place on the Wednesday and Thursday from 10.30 – 4pm before your show opens. You must make sure that all work is hung by 4pm on Thursday. If you need additional time to hang this must be agreed with IAF staff before your contract is signed.

When is the Private View?
Opening events at IAF must happen on Fridays from 6.30 – 8.30pm. You may set up your bar from 5pm. The bar must close at 8.15pm so that people have time to finish their drinks and vacate the building at 8.30pm. If the building is not vacated, there will be a £50 per half an hour fee to cover staff and building running costs.

What refreshments will be available at the Private View?
You are welcome to provide complimentary drinks and nibbles during your PV, drinks must be complimentary for your guests as there is no alcohol licence in place. It is your responsibility to provide a volunteer to serve at the bar if needed. Please make sure to leave the cafe area as you found it by the end of the evening.

May I run crits or other events during the course of my exhibition (outside of the PV)?
Any other events, crits or exhibition activities must be agreed with IAF before your contract is signed and will be charged at £30/hour.

Who will publicise my exhibition?
It is your responsibility to publicise your exhibition with Invitations, posters, social media and a press release.  Your exhibition will be featured on our website. Where possible we will share content and post about your show on our social media channels.

When do I take down my exhibition?
You will take down your exhibition on the Saturday after your show closes noon - 5pm. We require that you paint and fill any holes left in our walls, returning the gallery to how you found it.

Do you require an exhibition proposal?
IAF does not need to see an exhibition proposal but all exhibitions must be appropriate for IAF users.

What is appropriate exhibition content for your audiences?
Islington Arts Factory is a community arts centre that welcomes everyone. The content of the exhibitions must be appropriate for audiences of any age.

Do you have Audio Visual Equipment?
Islington Arts Factory does not have any audio visual equipment. If using equipment of this nature in the galley you must be completely responsible for both the setup of that equipment and its security.
If using audio visual equipment we recommend doing a trial run before you come to install, just to make sure you won't come up against any issues when you get here.

If you require additional technical assistance we can arrange support at £20/hour.

Do you take a percentage of sales of work?
We do not take a percentage of any sales made during your exhibition. If you are selling work, please have it clearly priced along with your contact details so that you can deal with enquiries directly. Please be aware that as IAF is not a commercial gallery the majority of sales come from the artists own contacts.

What are your gallery fees?

Main Gallery
£400 for the first week
£200 for additional weeks

Cafe Gallery
£200 for the first week
£100 for additional weeks

For a group over 8 artists there is an additional fee of £10 per head.

You will be required to pay a non-refundable booking fee of £150 to secure your booking. You will then be issued with a contract that will state the date that the full fee is required.

Do I have to invigilate my exhibition?
You are not required to invigilate the exhibition. IAF has a buzzer entry system and security camera so we are always aware of who is in the building at any one time.

Insurance
Islington Arts Factory Ltd is not liable for loss or damage to any works on display or for any personal accidents to exhibitors during their time at IAF and we recommend that you take appropriate insurance as necessary. A-N provide public liability cover for members and can provide one off cover for exhibitions, details of which can be found here:

https://www.a-n.co.uk/about/insurance/

Parking
Artists may make use of one of our staff parking spaces on the Wednesday of your set up and the Saturday of your take down. Please arrange this with IAF staff in advance if this is needed.
