Dan 12, Jim and Clara 9 (The Trinders!) have been coming to IAF for what feels like forever! They are a fantastic bunch and always a great asset to any art project they get involved in. We love them! Eleanor, our Director of Art and their sometimes teacher had a chat with them about what they get up to here...

What do you usually do at IAF?
Dan: We usually go to holiday workshops! Jim and Clara go to an art club every Tuesday.

What's your favourite thing about IAF?
Jim: My favourite thing is the holiday workshops, you make a big project all together over a week.
Dan: Yes, I agree, when everything comes together it's very satisfying.
Clara: My favourite is Tuesday art club, because you can bring things to show and every time you come you get to do something different for the project!

How long have you been coming to IAF?
Dan: We have all been coming since we were 4 or 5, and joined ArtStart on a Saturday morning.

Tell us what IAF means to you?
Clara: It's somewhere to come when you don't have anything else to do.
Dan: It's one of the fun things to do over the holiday!
Jim: Because we are having building work done at home, an extension, this is a place we can come if we don't have anything to do at home.
Who is your favourite Artist/Artwork?
Clara: My grandmother Wendy Trinder.
Jim: I like the art works that we have done here, my favourite was the Mr Hoppity sculpture from the Easter Workshop, that was the greatest thing I ever did, that was fun!
Dan: I agree with Jim, it was Mr Hoppity!

Tell us something about IAF that might surprise people.
Clara: In December we have an exhibition of everything we have done in the year and the Mayor comes.

What is your favourite place in Islington (apart from IAF Obviously!)?
Clara: My house! Also the Caledonian Park Clock tower where we visited Ellie's exhibition.
Dan: My favourite is the Sobel Centre because it has a trampoline park.

What do you do when you are not here?
Dan: Video games at home
Jim: We go to school, I am liking Maths because we do set two problems at the moment, one was too easy.

MakeArt, our annual children's exhibition, is definitely one of our favourite times of year. We get all our tutors and students together in one place and have a glass of kid friendly punch or parent friendly mulled wine, a mince pie or 2 and celebrate all their creativity and hard work and the Mayor of Islington comes, just look at those robes!

Check out some pics from the night.

Getting Excited about MakeArt

Our Children's showcase exhibition is always such a highlight of the Arts Factory year. Just before Christmas the air and our galleries are filled with excitement as we hang all the fantastic creations our young people have worked so hard on. Every year we are completely blown away by the talent and creativity that springs to life as our Director of Art, Eleanor Pearce, curates the show. Today we have been hanging paintings, just a puppet theatre and an 8 foot ceramic tree to go. Its going to look so fab by Friday!

Picture
This years exhibition is even more special, because not only do we have great work from our outreach projects at Tufnell Park and Hugh Myddleton Primary Schools, but at the opening on Friday there will be an extra special performance of Gothic Gargoyles by our Children's Contemporary Company around the showcase Creepy Castle sculpture. And Islington Mayor Richard Greening will be officially opening the exhibition.

It promises to be a great event, but if you can't make it the work will be on show until we close for Christmas on 23rd December
