Exhibition: 6th - 20th December 2019
Private View: 6pm - 8pm 6th December
Artist: MakeArt Students age 4 - 18

Join us for MakeArt, the exciting annual showcase of children's artwork, created on Islington Arts Factory's MakeArt Programme by young artists aged 4 - 16 years old. This year the Mayor of Islington, Councillor Rakhia Ismail will declare the exhibition open for an assembled audience of family, friends and the public.

Discover The Big Top, a colourful collection of  painted cut outs, where you will encounter the ring master, a strong woman cat, acrobats, and an escaped elephant. Dive in to the 15ft long Let's go to the Beach painting, with jolly crabs, lobsters and a leaping whale, all created during IAF's  Summer Holiday Workshops.

The ArtStart artists, aged 4 - 6 years old, have been focusing on environmental issues, creating aqua collages of the deep ocean and a large sculpture of a whale made from plastic bottles.

The MakeMoreArt teenage class have created an epic mixed media painting called Falling or Flying? which features tumbling, falling and flying figures, topped off with an avenging angel wielding a sword. The class explored facial expressions, creating a host of cackling, grimacing and eyebrow raising portraits.

What's in the Pond? you may well ask! Mr Frog, ducks, fishes and much more sit beneath the richly decorative  surfaces from the May Half Term Holiday Workshop. At Easter the children made Sheep sculptures, but these are no ordinary sheep...they're in a band!, reflecting the multi-arts environment that Islington Arts Factory provides.

Come down to the Allotment to see what's been growing in Tuesday MakeArt, where you will discover glorious glittering flowers, cool cucumbers and canny cruciferous vegetables, beautifully depicted with fine line pen on top of paint.

Discover the wilderness in sculptures inhabited by Jungle animals and insects by Clay Level 1 alongside slab built teapots and abstract stacking vessels by our teenage potters from Clay level 2.

This year IAF invited Hanover Primary School's art club to showcase their latest project Birds, Colour and Contrast as part of the show. Their luminous, carefully layered surfaces express the children's delight in both nature and colour.

Eleanor Pearce, Director of Art  says:

'We are delighted to welcome you to MakeArt this year! Islington Arts Factory gives Children's art equal standing to that of adults. This exhibition is a demonstration of the expansive imagination shown by the artists and the sheer joy in their depictions on a range of exciting themes. It's a riot of colour and there's something new to discover wherever you look.'

Islington Arts Factory's  team of artists are committed to passing on their skills and unlocking the creative potential in every child.

The MakeArt Programme is devised and delivered by artists Eleanor Pearce (Director of Art, MakeMoreArt and Holiday Workshops ), Tess Williams (Tuesday MakeArt), Josephine Sweeney (Thursday MakeArt and Holiday Workshops), Kayley Holderness (Clay Level 1 & 2)) Kiera Burton (ArtStart) and Jude Lacey (ArtStart).

Exhibition: 7th - 21st December 2018
Private View: 6pm - 8pm 7th December

You are cordially invited to join the Mayor of Islington, Councillor Dave Poyser for the  opening of this exciting annual showcase of children's artwork, created on the MakeArt Programme by artists aged 4 - 16 years old.

You will encounter a huge painted tableau of dancing figures inspired by the Venice Carnival made by our MakeArt and Move artists during the summer holidays. There will also be mighty group painting of The Reptile House, where by moonlight the inhabitants have escaped! The centrepiece of the main gallery will be The Vegetable Man sculpture, constructed from all the bounty of harvest in our half term workshop 'Ode to Autumn' and it's story time at the foot of the towering Faraway Tree sculpture. As we are approaching Christmas, you are invited to visit the Toy Shop window to pick your favourite Teddy Bear, created collaboratively by our ArtStart artists. Clay Level one students present an array of succulents and cacti ceramics, while Clay Level two have crafted beautiful vessels with slab building techniques, representing each of their personal tastes and interests.
The Tuesday MakeArt class have made wooden pull string puppets making up a menagerie of creatures, both real and imagined. You can explore a paper mache city, constructed by Thursday MakeArt, with vivid colours and quirky detailing. The MakeMoreArt artists will be presenting beautiful prints inspired by flowers and birds, as well as transcriptions of Henry Moore's Sheep Sketchbook in fineline pen and ominous eye drawings.

This year we are delighted to include examples of work from art clubs held at Hugh Myddelton Primary School and Hanover Primary School, these include  a collection of detailed drawings of skeletons inspired by the decorative Mexican Day of the dead parade, and a flock of owls in charcoal!

The MakeArt Programme is devised and delivered by Islington Arts Factory artists Eleanor Pearce (Director of Art), Kayley Holderness, Josephine Sweeney, and Jude Lacey. We are committed to passing on our skills and unlocking the creative potential in every child through imaginatively engaging theme based projects. We respect the artistic merits of young artists  and consider their works on an equal par to adults artists work.

Join the Mayor of Islington in celebrating a decade of MakeArt at Islington Arts Factory

Private View: 2nd December 6pm - 8pm
Exhibition: 2nd - 22nd December 2016

This year Islington Arts Factory celebrates a decade of our innovative MakeArt programme which provides enriching education and exhibition opportunities for young people aged 4 - 19 from across the borough. The Mayor of Islington will open the MakeArt exhibition on the 2nd December to a crowd of artists, families and well wishers.

A majestic fire breathing dragon will preside over the gallery, while a creepy graveyard, complete with ghouls and ghosts forms the dramatic centrepiece. A skate park inspired group painting spanning 20ft will dazzle in bright fluorescent tones.
Having explored a variety of drawing and painting techniques, teenage artists from our MakeMoreArt class present a selection of self portraits alongside studies from ornamental stone carvings from across the classical world. These works on paper and canvas are joined by contributions from those who attended IAF's Summerversity Drawing and Painting Workshops.

A herd of horse paintings from Tuesday MakeArt  (7 - 11s) were inspired by George Stubbs' famous painting Whistlejacket. Saturday ArtStart (4 - 6s) were also motivated to explore the equine with a series of magical unicorns. Taking inspiration from the wonderful world of insects, Thursday MakeArt (7 - 11s) have created prints that explore symmetry and colour with mark making.

IAF's  young ceramicists have individually crafted an impressive collection of 3D textured tiles that combine to create a sublime cityscape. Clay Level 1 will present a selection of characterful busts depicting imaginary beings while Clay Level 2 students are preparing a Feast, with plentiful platters richly decorated in slip, wax, glaze and stain washes to create sumptuous surfaces to whet the appetite.

Islington Arts Factory's outreach work is represented by fabulous colourful creations form ArtyKids at Hugh Myddleton Primary School.

''At Islington Arts Factory we are proud to champion the benefits that involvement in visual arts activities give to children. We offer a nurturing space for creative expression outside of the school system. We believe in supporting children's unique visions and helping them to develop as artist and as individuals within a supportive framework.''
Join us at this celebration of the extraordinary and vivid imaginations, the hard work and sustained commitment of all our young artists.

With big, bold and colourful art work by over 75 talented young artists aged 4 - 16, the MakeArt exhibition explodes into the IAF galleries this December.

The magnificent centre piece will be a fabulous Creepy Castle flanked by towering sculptures of The King of Queen of Autumn. There will be exquisite detailed pen drawing and tributes to American pop art from our teens and a fully functional  puppet theatre complete with a range of animal puppets made by our 4 - 6's ArtStart class. A giant tree sculpture from our clay class will adorn the walls. Showcasing group painting, drawing, sculpture and pottery from the MakeArt Programme, this year we are joined by contributions from Islington's Summerversity and art groups from Hugh Myddelton and Tufnell Park primary schools.

The Mayor of Islington  Councillor Richard Greening will officially declare the exhibition open at the private view on the 4th December after a special performance by the Young Factory Dance Co of Gothic Gargoyles around the Creepy Castle.
