Stuckist Tarot Show
21st - 28th September 2012 Artists: Ella Guru, Jasmine Maddock, Peter Murphy, Marketa Urbanova, Joe Machine, Jonathon Coudrille, Odysseus Yakoumakis, Eamon Everall, Annie Zamero, Artista Eli, Elsa Dax, Philip Absalon, Charles Thomson, Terry Marks, Alexis Hunter, Lapsking Hamed Dehnavi, Andrew Galbraith, Jaroslav, Virginia Andow, Farsam Sangini, Bill Lewis, Paul Harvey The first exhibition of the Major Arcana designed by an art movement. Local artists Elsa Dax, who divides her time between her native Paris and Camden, and American-born Islington-resident Ella Guru, have brought together 22 Stuckist artists for this show. The Tarot is the oldest card game in the world. It is a collection of ideas and symbols from a wide variety of cultures. Stuckism was founded by 13 artists in 1999, with the aim of advancing new figurative painting as the most vital artistic means of addressing contemporary issues. Stuckism is now an international art movement with over 200 groups in 50 countries. Artists in this show are from as far as Prague, Tehran and the US. Guest artists show some court cards, and 3 children also show their interpretations. The printed deck of Major Arcana will be available to buy on the opening night, 21 September, when Klezmer group Balabustah will also be performing.
