Memento Mori
4th - 10th September 2010 Artists: David Underwood, Faye Winslade, Tamar Hopkins, Hannah Devereux, Rowan Meacock, Willow Mitchell Memento Mori: Studies in Print examines the response of six contemporary printmakers to the condition of mortality, and the visual and conceptual importance of decay and regeneration within their work. Macabre sojourns into the grave are presented together with imposing abstract studies and works concerned with deconstruction and poetic repetition of line and form. Oppressive spaces confront fragile, considered observation and it is here that subtlety courts the immovable. In their understanding and use of the printed mark, each artist communicates the honesty and intensity that are intrinsic to work sympathetic to physical process. This collection is founded on the artists’ belief in the application of print as one of the most valid and essential forms of Fine Art.
